Searching for something about Hegel, I was somehow transported to this image from the gallery at Bougal.com, which seems to be titled “Overpower” (the original image is much clearer than what, for download speed, I have reproduced here). The title made me wonder which of the figures are meant to be overpowering which: Is the bright figure meant to have emerged triumphant from its struggles with the darkness? Or is the brightness illusory – a cohesive, crystalline image that dark and conflictual multitudes have put forward as a public shield?
